Instructions For Use

PLEASE READ FIRST

Introduction

Thank You for purchasing EL+ turf colorant, a best-in-class product that is safe for people, pets and plants. EL+ turf colorant is non-toxic, eco-friendly, fast drying, UV resistant, colorfast and is suitable for use on all types of grass.
Reading these instructions in their entirety should ensure that you are able to install EL+ turf colorant in a safe and effective manner.  If you have any questions or comments with regard to the use of EL+ turf colorant, please feel free to contact Enviro-Lawn through our website; www.envirolawnllc.com or via email; [email protected]

Installation Equipment

Proper installation of EL+ turf colorant requires the use of the right equipment.  Enviro-Lawn recommends using a high-quality battery powered backpack sprayer or an electric airless sprayer.  Hand pump sprayers can be used but are not recommended. Using a sprayer with fan type spray nozzle will maximize coverage area and uniformity of the EL+ turf colorant application.

Safety Equipment

Use of proper personal safety equipment is strongly recommended. Using eye protection is of utmost importance. Disposable gloves should be used when handling EL+ turf colorant to prevent contact with and the staining of skin. In the event you get EL+ turf colorant on your hands, wash them with soap and water. If EL+ turf colorant dries on your skin or other surfaces, cleaning products like Krud Kutter, Gojo, Simple Green or a similar type product can be used. EL+ turf colorant will stain clothing so please keep that in mind when handling the material.

Preparation Prior to Painting

By properly preparing the turf to be sprayed, you will make the installation process easier and ensure more satisfactory results. Clear all areas to be painted of debris, sticks, leaves, pine cones, acorns and similar type materials. Relocate any items (e.g. figurines or statues) that are easily moved to avoid overspray contact.  For items that cannot be moved such as sidewalks, driveways, decking, pavers, etc., consider using masking materials or painting guides to prevent accidental overspray contact. Enviro-Lawn sells a wheel sprayer (refer to our website) that is specifically designed as an edging tool to prevent accidental overspray.
Next you will want to prepare all unmovable items (e.g. trees, shrubs, sidewalks, driveways, pavers, fencing, foundations, etc.) by wetting them with water.  Accidental overspray is easier to remove from wetted surfaces than it is from dry surfaces.  Accidental overspray is also easier to remove / cleanup before it dries.
Lightly wet the turf to be painted before application of EL+ turf colorant. Wetting the grass facilitates better adhesion of the EL+ turf colorant to the grass blades. The presence of moisture results in more controlled absorption of the EL+ turf colorant and makes it spread more evenly.
If you have areas with dead grass or no grass at all, we recommend filling these areas with replacement turf prior to painting.  EL+ turf colorant will not color dirt, sand or soil.  Applying EL+ turf colorant to dead grass will yield very short-term results.

Handling EL+ Turf Colorant

Read the EL+ turf colorant label carefully prior to handling and applying the material.  Enviro-Lawn’s EL+ turf colorant is bottled in a concentration that is ready for application; dilution with water is not necessary or recommended.  Before pouring EL+ turf colorant into your sprayer, shake the container well to ensure the contents are thoroughly combined. Carefully open the lid and fill your sprayer to the appropriate level.  Each gallon of EL+ turf colorant covers up to 800 square feet of turf.  Actual coverage varies depending on stand height of grass, application rate / speed, type of spray nozzle being used and type of sprayer being used.
After dispensing the desired amount of EL+ turf colorant into your sprayer, secure the lid on the container. If the EL+ turf colorant container is empty and no longer needed, please follow the disposal suggestions set forth in the MSDS which is available on the Enviro-Lawn website.

Applying EL+ Turf Colorant

Carefully follow all operating instructions associated with your sprayer.  Before applying EL+ turf colorant on highly visible areas, apply it in an inconspicuous area to ensure that your application equipment is functioning properly.  While EL+ turf colorant can be diluted to reduce the intensity of the color, such dilution is not recommended or necessary.  Dilution should never exceed 1 gallon of water to every 2 gallons of EL+ turf colorant.
Apply EL+ turf colorant from a fan type spray nozzle located approximately 8 – 10 inches from the surface of the grass.  The spray wand should be kept in motion while EL+ turf colorant is being dispensed.  Consider a left to right spray application and repeat in the opposite direction or in a perpendicular direction if needed for proper coverage.  Two passes are generally recommended.  Develop a simple EL+ turf colorant application plan so that you have unobstructed access and egress to the area being painted.  To eliminate the potential for tracking of colorant, avoid walking through areas with uncured EL+ turf colorant.
Exercise caution when spraying near items that you do not want treated with EL+ turf colorant.  If you encounter overspray on concrete, pavers, foundations, etc.  immediately rinse the area with plenty of water.  In the event the spray nozzle becomes clogged, simply remove and clean it with dishwashing soap and water.  Some sprayers contain a filter in the bottom of the container that may become clogged if the sprayer is not properly cleaned after each use.

Finishing the Job

Once application of EL+ turf colorant is complete, immediately check objects and surfaces that may have come in contact with overspray. Rinse immediately with water. If stain persists, use Krud Kutter, Gojo, Simple Green or an equivalent cleaner. EL+ turf colorant should be allowed to cure no less than 3-5 hours before walking on treated areas or allowing pets or children to enter those areas. In most instances, EL+ turf colorant will completely cure in 24 hours.

Clean Up

Once the EL+ turf colorant installation is complete thoroughly clean your spray equipment before the paint material has time to dry.  Restore unused EL+ turf colorant in original bottles and secure lids.  If disposing of unused EL+ turf colorant, please do so in a manner set forth in the MSDS which is available on the Enviro-Lawn website. Once the EL+ turf colorant is removed from the sprayer, thoroughly clean the equipment and run clean water through it to clean the tank, filter, hose, spray wand and nozzle.
DO NOT DISPOSE OF EL+ TURF COLORANT IN AREAS THAT WOULD BE NEGATIVELY IMPACTED BY EXPOSURE TO THE MATERIAL; SEE MSDS FOR DISPOSAL GUIDANCE.

Storage of Unused EL+ Turf Colorant

Unused EL+ turf colorant should only be stored in the original container with the lid tightly secured.  Storing previously opened bottles of EL+ turf colorant for periods longer the 6 months is not recommended.  Storing EL+ turf colorant that has been diluted for longer than 2 months is not recommended.

Helpful Hints

Rain or Water

Once applied, EL+ turf colorant MUST have ample time in which to completely cure before being exposed to rain or water.  It is always best to err on the side of caution and not install EL+ turf colorant until you have a window of 24 hours of dry weather.  Sprinkler systems should be deactivated for 24 hours following the application of EL+ turf colorant.

Coverage and Color Density

To ensure you get the proper coverage and color density, please follow Enviro-Lawn’s application instructions and recommendations.  Excessive dilution of EL+ turf colorant can result in unacceptable color density.
